White pine and red pine share a lot of overlapping range and sometimes even grow together in mixed stands.

So today's video breaks down how to identify these two species, using 4 different methods to really stretch your observation skills:

1. Needles

2. Cones

3. Bark

4. Silhouette (long distance ID)

My favorite method is #4 and if you master this technique, you can even identify pines in night conditions with almost no light!
