June Newsletter

Assalamu Alaykum Friend,

Can you believe we're already halfway through the Gregorian year? Time is flying by! As we enter June, there are important events and milestones ahead.

Firstly, we approach Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic year, where we are reminded of faith, sacrifice, and unity. Starting most likely on June 19th, the first ten days hold tremendous significance, with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stating that-

“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” (Bukhari)

As June marks the end of the financial year, making it tax season. You still have the opportunity to contribute to empowering vulnerable members of our Muslim community in Australia and potentially benefit from tax returns. NZF is a registered charity with full tax-deductible status for donations over $2. Claiming tax deductions on your donations is permissible in Islam, and any refund received is separate from your initial donation. Soon we’ll be enabling our daily giving for the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah where you can automate your donations on our website!

Let us reflect, worship, and give in charity during this blessed time.

Just before the commencement of Ramadan, we were inundated with an overwhelming response from our community. More than 500 individuals submitted applications for Zakat assistance. This staggering number of applicants goes to show the escalating hardships people are enduring due to the ever-increasing cost of living. It is in moments like these that we are reminded of the critical role your Zakat contributions play in our unwavering commitment to supporting those in need and striving to make a meaningful difference in their lives.

At NZF, we actively work on initiatives to address the financial struggles faced by our community members, and we'll keep you updated on our progress. Your ongoing support and contributions are vital in making a lasting difference in the lives of those in need. Thank you for your ongoing support!

Wasalaam,

Her eldest child is estranged from the family, and her other child is currently incarcerated due to drug involvement, leaving her feeling as if the weight of the whole world is on her shoulders.

Explore Hayfa's story and witness the transformative power of your Zakat in easing her life's challenges.

Zakat Question of the Month

****

A: There is a difference of opinion among the scholars with respect to the wife giving Zakat to her needy husband. The Hanafi school is of the opinion it is not permitted whilst the Shafi’i school permit it.
