Assalamu Alaykum Friend,
Last Ramadan, our system shows that you had paid your Zakat before the 26th of Ramadan. However, this year it appears that you have not yet paid your Zakat.
We just wanted to check in and remind you, in case you had inadvertently missed your Zakat anniversary.
In Islam, paying your Zakat on time, on it's anniversary is generally not treated with the importance it should be. For example, we take praying our obligatory prayers on time very seriously, but unfortunately may not apply the same to Zakat.
Imam Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“Our scholars (the Shafi’I scholars) agree that when Zakat becomes binding upon an individual who has ability to pay, he must give immediately. Delaying the payment of Zakat will make him sinful.
This is also the view of Imam Malik, Imam Ahmad and the majority of scholars. Our evidence is the words of Allah, may He be exalted:
“And give Zakat” (Qur’an 2:43). This command implies that is to be paid immediately. (al-Majmu’ Sharh al-Muhadhdhab 5/335)
Hence we urge you to pay your Zakat immediately, if your anniversary has passed this year.
Of course if you have already paid your Zakat to another cause, please ignore this email. You have completed your obligation and that's great Alhamdulillah.
If you have any questions in relation to the above, please reply to us and we can clarify it for you. You can also visit our website at nzf.org.au and chat live with our Zakat officers.
May Allah make it easy for us to fulfil this great pillar of Islam. May Allah accept your worship in the coming days!
Wassalam,
The NZF Team
