Assalamu Alaykum Friend,

Another blessed month has arrived as we begin the new year 1446 in our Islamic Calendar. The month of Allah, al-Muharram, is a great and blessed month. It is the first month of the Hijri year and is one of the sacred months.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that the best fasting after Ramadan is fasting in the month of al-Muharram. The day of Ashura falls on the 10th of Muharram. The Prophet (SAW) advised us to fast on this day and also to fast either the day before it or the day after it, but fasting on all three days is considered excellence. The day of Ashura is significant in Islamic history, as it marks events such as the parting of the sea for Musa (AS) to save them from Pharaoh.

The Prophet (SAW) said, "Fasting the day of Ashura, I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year." (Muslim).

At the National Zakat Foundation, we are just coming off a busy month of Eid ul Adha celebrations and sacrifice. We would like to thank all our hardworking staff and volunteers for their help and support during this time.

Local Qurban For Local Need

This Dhul Hijjah, we fulfilled 280 Qurban orders, Alhamdulillah. Palestinians from Gaza were prioritised to receive their Qurban meat in Melbourne and Sydney.

It was our first year offering a delivery service, and we ask for your forgiveness for any shortcomings. We would love your feedback so we can implement a better service for you in the future. Feel free to reply to this email with your suggestions.

Here are the distribution details:

A total of 330 Gazan families (1,063 individuals) received Qurban meat.
An additional 40 families (226 individuals) from the East African community Melbourne were also included in the distribution.
11 families (44 individuals) from the Malaysian community in Melbourne received Qurban meat as well.
Each family received between 5kg and 9kg of meat, depending on family size.

Total Recipient Families: 381

Total Impacted Individuals: 1,333
