Applications from Muslims struggling across Australia have gone up more than 50% since the COVID-19 outbreak
Muslims are affected right now. Many are finding it difficult to buy food and keep a roof over their heads. In the last 30 days, nearly 320 Muslims have applied to NZF for support. Your Zakat is helping Muslim families in their time of need.
If you or someone you know is struggling, we may be able to help. To apply for support, please visit www.nzf.org.au/apply.
I want to mention just one recent example that really brings home how serious the situation is. We had an asylum seeker approach us recently - br Hassan. He had no Centrelink benefits and had lost both of his jobs due to the COVID-19 outbreak. He began reaching out to non-Muslim charities for help, who attempt to convert him to another religion at each instance of help. That’s right - for offers to help, he also got “offers” to change his religion.
With nowhere else to turn as the bills became harder to pay off, and trying to feed his young family, he was faced with the hardest financial difficulties he has ever experienced.
We were approached, and by the fadl of Allah, NZF Immediately assisted him with a lump sum payment to help with rental and food necessities and to work to find him longer-term solutions such as other work.
This is ONE of many cases we are seeing here at NZF. Despite the help the government is offering, many cases (such as this one) are falling through with no one to support except their Muslim community.
This is why we need your support at this time. We will literally be one of the first ports of call for Muslims who fall through the “welfare safety net” - and it's a very dire situation for those who cannot find this help in some way!
Please assist us in assisting such people, and consider bringing forward your Zakat this year prior to Ramadan to help us serve such cases.
