Subject: Friend It's time to talk Elderly Muslims, and what else we have planned

Friend Assalamu Alaykum to you and your family,

We hope this finds you in the best of health and imaan, looking forward to a new year with its new challenges.

As COVID-19 continues (unfortunately impacting Australia’s Muslim community significantly!) we pray that you and your loved ones are safe and in good spirits. A reminder to always reach out to us if you need anything – financially and otherwise – we’ll do our best to assist, insha Allah!

2021 was a huge year for NZF, and 2022 promises to be even bigger. We’re already busy with a lot happening, but start by reflecting on the year that was.

In the video below, our CEO Br Ismail Davids shares some of his thoughts and highlights of 2021. He also looks forward to an important year ahead in terms of our initiatives and programs.

We’ll begin this year with a very important upcoming episode of our monthly online show, Real Talk. As we’ve recently launched our Respecting Elders program, we hope this will be an important contribution to the community conversation on how we look after our elders.

We’re delighted to be addressing this important issue. We hope you can join us next Wednesday 12 January at 7 pm.

JazakumAllahu Khairan

Looking back & Looking forward | A message from Br Ismail Davids

Our CEO, Br Ismail Davids, looks back on the year that was and the year to come.  From our highlights and achievements to our key focus areas for 2022, this short video looks at what’s top of mind for us!

Real Talk next episode | Wed 12 January | The Elderly & the Muslim Community: Have we let our Elders down?

Islam places incredible emphasis on the treatment of our parents specifically and our elderly generally. They are described in the most honorific of ways by Allah.

But have we as a community done injustice to our elderly? Do we look after their needs as a community and as individuals? Are too many of us sending our parents to aged care? Or is aged care actually an important part of the puzzle for our elderly to get taken good care of?

Join us for this important discussion on an overdue topic. We are joined by the CEO of Australia's first aged care facility which caters in large part to the Muslim community. We look at his experience and ask important questions about Gallipoli Home - what part it is playing in the community and whether it can be an important institution in our community's overall needs in the years to come.

Panellists: Br Abdurrahman Asaroglu (CEO, Gallipoli Home Aged Care Facility), Ismail Davids (NZF CEO and initiator of Respecting Elderly program)
