Refugee Week 2021 - Message from the CEO

Refugee Week at NZF

This week, we celebrated Refugee Week to raise awareness about the realities of being a refugee in Australia.

Community Programs Updates

(with hiring opportunities)

We have also been growing our Community Programs and our network of partnerships within the Australian Muslim community, so we can continue to help Muslims in need locally.

Spectrum is partnering with NZF to share education and employment opportunities for beneficiaries under most recent program - the Muslim Asylum and Refugee’s Program. For now, Spectrum is looking to hire 20 people for the Domestic Support Worker role, while providing training and educational opportunities for the role.


If you, or someone you know, would be interested, join us online next Monday (5th of July) at 7PM (Syd./Melb. time) for a chance to meet the people who are working in these roles and the Hiring Manager. Limited spots are available - Register HERE!

Spectrum is an employment and advocacy service based in Melbourne that have been working with migrant and refugee individuals and families in local communities to help new Australians feel at home. Learn more about their work HERE.

Darussalam Islamic Bookstore has joined us as one of our Service Partners to provide Maqdis Qurans and discounted Islamic resources for every young Muslim child who is aspiring to revive their love for the Quran. These services are provided to beneficiaries under the following programs:

  • Rising Stars - supporting Muslims youth

  • Recite to Rise - supporting Quran schools and young students in local communities

  • Brighter Futures - supporting Muslim orphan children

Darussalam is been a global leader in Islamic books, resources and other merchandise. They have two established stores in Sydney and Melbourne, that are renowned as the primary source for Islamic educational resources for many Muslims in Australia. Learn more about their work HERE.


Maximise your EOFY period - ending soon!

With the support of the Australian Muslim community, and by the blessings of Allah SWT, NZF has been bringing hope for Muslims in need all around Australia and advocating of local Zakat for almost 10 years. 


If you’d like to support us, please donate HERE before the EOFY. Here are also a few points to keep in mind:

  1. Pay your Zakat / Sadaqah / Tainted Wealth to NZF today and benefit from claiming them as tax deductions for this financial year.

  2. Scholars have advised that it is acceptable to claim Zakat /Sadaqah donations as tax deductions as they are two separate transactions.

  3. When you receive your tax refund, the safer opinion is to pay Zakat on the refund immediately and not one year later as the ATO has "withheld" your wealth for one year and hence Zakat is due on it as soon as you receive it (like Superannuation).
