Assalamualaikum Friend
Did you know that in 2018-19 there were 170,000 children in Australia in Foster Care, with 55,000 children receiving some type of protection service. In NSW alone there were 19,000 children in Foster Care.
And the Muslim community is not immune to this. This extended to Muslim children and families as well.
Foster care is provided to children and young people who are unable to live with their own families. This could be due to many reasons, financial, medical, trauma or other circumstances.
Foster carers support families by caring for children while parents get help to change. For a period of time, foster carers take on the responsibilities of a parent to provide a safe, nurturing and secure family environment for children and young people needing care.
My Foster Family
National Zakat Foundation Australia is proud to support and help seed fund the My Foster Family (MFF) initiative. My Foster Family was recently launched with the intention of being an organised voice and advocate for Muslims involved in the foster care system, whether as a child or as a carer.
MFF intends to deliver services including but not limited to Awareness Campaigns, Services Referrals, Lobbying and many more. |
