It's hard to believe the Winter Solstice is just a week away, Friend. Then days later Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa all the spiritual holy days are upon us.
It felt more real when I woke up to snow on Thursday morning - a fine powdery snow that kept falling all day.
One of the ways I connect with family tradition around the holidays is by sewing. My grandma Eva always sewed gifts for us at Christmas, whether it was matching pajamas, or satin pillow cases to prevent split ends in our hair once the girls were teenagers.
She was notorious for sewing late into the night, up to the last minute. Recently my mom, uncle and I had a good laugh about the time Grandma didn't finish in time and wrapped up gifts with patterns pinned to fabric.
Sitting at the sewing machine always reminds me of my grandma, she taught me how to sew and bought me my first sewing machine for my 12th birthday.
This weekend I'm sewing altar sized prayer flags, in two designs 1) Cosmic Flight with feathers, butterflies and stars 2) Rooted Earth a rich batiked fabric rainbow - included in the limited edition gift set.
I'm also sewing, third eye lavender dream pillows with Thai silk I sought out when traveling last winter. I hand selected my favorites from the source and watched women, making silk fabric on a loom from the cocoon. Amazing!
These goodies and more are available in my Etsy shop. Monday is the shipping cut off date so I won't be sewing into the night like grandma 😉
Blessed holy days,
