Habari Friend,
I want to share something you might not know you need to hear: the REPLAY from yesterday’s call, “3P in Africa.”
The sound quality was terrible at times. The Internet isn't as reliable in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement as it is in Europe.
But rest assured, the wisdom of our guest speakers from the 3P Nakivale Alcohol Department came through loud and clear.
Hearing Phillips, Nehemia, Murindangabo, and Andrew tell their stories was humbling and deeply inspiring.
As I closed my eyes to concentrate on their voices and picture the situations they were describing, this is what I heard and saw ...
People who came to take away everything they held dear and the experience of watching people be injured and killed.
The fear they might be next, the necessity to flee their homes for another country, and losing loved ones on the way.
Arriving at Nakivale in a state of overwhelm and with anger in their guts, turning to alcohol to forget the pain.
Knowing God and, at the same time, having forgotten that hope and love exist.
Don’t rely on my account; listen for yourself.

Then, in each person’s case, something miraculous happened.
A light appeared in the darkness and illuminated the wisdom inside of them.
Grace showed up and brought them forgiveness.
(Can you imagine forgiving someone who has literally taken away your home or family? Or forgiving yourself?)
Friends shared the good news that "happiness is free."
Love, always present when negative thinking subsides, fills their hearts again.
These are the stories of the 3P Nakivale Alcohol Department and how each has grown from refugee to Professional Alcohol Counselor, achieving many successes in healing addiction.
Listen to their stories for yourself, and you won’t walk away the same as you came ...

When I asked Phillips, the department manager, what he wanted to add to this email, he asked me to tell you this ...
"We do our best. God does the rest."
So it is, dear Phillips. So it is.
Have a wonderful weekend, and remember to count your many blessings, be happy, and share love with others.
Asante sana,
Shailia...
