Something changed the way we give...
As many of you know, Emma’s daughter’s sixteen-year-old best friend is fighting leukaemia. For those who've been following her story, you'll be delighted to hear that she is in remission and has moved into the next phase of treatment.

What you probably don’t know is that, weeks after that diagnosis, Audrey’s Dad was also diagnosed with the disease and his treatment will continue indefinitely.

Having two beautiful people within our closest circles diagnosed with the same disease and given different prognoses left us blindsided. We felt helpless.

You want to fix it for them, and you want to fix things for so many others who battle all manner of illnesses and injustices. The need to help can feel overwhelming at times.
Then we remembered that one of the 15-minute tasks in our program was to choose ONE charity as your ‘Giving Project’ for the year. And we knew what to do.

Rather than feel upset that we can’t help every good cause, and pressured every time we’re asked for funds, we’d focus our efforts on ONE charity for a full 12 months.

We’d learn what they do. We’d support them financially and practically if possible.

So now, whenever there is a choice about who to give to this year, we choose the Leukaemia Foundation. If there’s a fun run entry fee to donate, it goes to them.

Emma donated the proceeds from a book talk to the Foundation. All profits from Audrey’s Dad's memoir, Midget Gems, which was recently published, are going to the Foundation.

Emma’s daughter and her friends raised thousands in the Sunflower Dash for Leukaemia last year. Their fundraising efforts were only eclipsed by corporate groups.

And as our concentrated efforts gather steam, we start to feel a little less helpless. We feel a little more like we’re making a difference to the organisation that helps so many, and people very close to our hearts.

So it was a very natural decision for us to choose to donate $30 from every My 15 Minutes sale in 2015 to the Leukaemia Foundation.

The more we’re able to give, the more proactive we feel. The less we’re ‘standing idly by’.

We encourage you to think of a charity that really means a lot to you, your family or someone close to you. Make it your Giving Project for 2015.

Like we have, you’ll soon find all kinds of opportunities coming your way to do what you can to make a difference, not just financially but in other ways too.

All the best

Audrey & Emma
