A note from Emma & Audrey

Earlier in the year, we spent nearly two hours in Audrey's office in Adelaide, attempting to record a 5-minute introductory video for a program for business owners, which we subsequently shelved (just for the time being...).

The video was hopeless.

If we weren't stumbling over our words, we were falling off the couch laughing at how impossibly difficult it seemed to get just a few minutes of sensible, professional, useful footage.
Fast forward a few months and yesterday we recorded five short videos for the My 15 Minutes program - before breakfast. Actually, it was even before coffee. No scripts, no drama.

Compared with our previous performance, it was almost as if we'd hired body doubles to do the job properly. Two people who 'got' that we had a set amount of time available and had liberated themselves from the clutches of 'perfect'. These two just 'did it' - no over-thinking, no second-guessing, no worrying whether they were doing it 'properly' or 'right' or in a way that was 'enough'.

It's similar to the approach that we're encouraging people to take in the rapidly-growing community of 160+ people who are participating in the My 15 Minutes program. There's a temptation sometimes to open the daily email tasking and become tangled in a familiar quest for perfection: to spend fifteen minutes or more trapped in 'paralysis by analysis' - focusing on the process instead of the action itself.

There's a temptation to beat ourselves up when we don't progress as quickly as we'd like.

The My 15 Minutes program is so much more than the results of the daily actions. It's challenging participants to understand the habits and patterns that they've been using to stay stuck. The more tasks that they complete in this new way, the more clearly these strategies emerge and the closer they become to letting go of making life more difficult than it needs to be...
