Spring Returns to Mundekulla
A bike ride along the winding paths from Emmaboda to Mundekulla became a gentle reminder that spring is on its way. Nature is slowly coming back to life – buds are beginning to appear on the trees, and birdsong can be heard everywhere, even indoors. A quiet yet powerful sign of the ever-turning seasons.
In Mundekulla’s archives, stories are preserved of those who once lived here. A favourite among them is the wandering painter, Petter Målare, who lived for a time in Eneholm and became known for his humor and playful creativity – like the time he painted eyelashes on a piece of furniture, simply because the client’s name was Frans (which also means “fringe” or “eyelash” in Swedish).
Today, Eneholm is a charming summer cottage with modern comforts and part of Mundekulla’s broad range of accommodation options. Yet the memory of a simpler life still lingers. People here once lived in close cooperation, carefully planning for the long winter months – a spirit that still feels present. Many of the 19th-century buildings remain, and guests often remark on the same sense of calm and connection to nature: birdsong in the morning, starry skies at night, and clean, clear water to swim in. Swedish luxury in its purest form.
