| Center Trail Bridge update
We are pleased to report that on October 22nd the Town Council voted 7 - 0 to approve the Conditional Use Permit for the Center Trail Bridge. During the council meeting both sides of the issue were given an opportunity to present their case and after a spirited discussion the Council unanimously approved the CUP. We are still waiting on the permits from California Fish and Wildlife but the engineering design has been completed and a request for bids for construction will be sent out this month. As we mentioned before, there is a moratorium on construction around creeks from Oct 15 to June 15 so hopefully we can use this time to finish up the rest of the permits and get the construction and materials bids. We are still targeting a start date of June 16, 2020. The Mounted Patrol Foundation has pledged $15,000 and along with donations from other equestrian organizations have managed to raise the $115,000 needed to support this project.

The application process and application forms will be posted on both the Mounted Patrol Foundation web site and the WHOA! web site later this month. The recipient will be announced in April.
Please spread the word to students you believe may be interested and qualified.
SMCHA offered Free Riding Clinics at the Mounted Patrol
This past Fall, the San Mateo County Horsemen’s Association with the help of a $1000 donation from the Mounted Patrol Foundation, was able to offer free riding clinics to our local equestrians. There were a total of 4 clinics held in September and October at the Mounted Patrol grounds. Each offered both English and Western equitation and horsemanship as well as a novice class and training over obstacles. In all over 30 riders attended. The hope is to offer these twice a year in the Spring and the Fall. Big thanks to the trainers, participants and volunteers for making these clinics so successful.
Towne Creek Bridge – Construction story
For those of you interested in learning more about the all-volunteer construction of the Town Creek Bridge, Teri Baron has written up a great article discussing all the aspects and challenges of completing the project. She has included great photo’s as well, so we encourage you to click here and check it out. Also, in recognition of his Herculean efforts, the San Mateo County Horsemen’s Association designated Mike Bushee as Horseman of the Year. He will be awarded this honor at the SMCHA Installation Dinner on Jan 25. Congratulations to Mike. Well deserved.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to reach out to our equestrian friends and look forward to communicating with you regularly regarding our efforts and other areas of interest to our community. We also invite you to provide feedback on issues we are not aware of where the Foundation and our supporters may be of assistance.
Thanks so much for joining us and happy trails.
