Towne Creek Bridge Complete
We are delighted to announce that the Towne Creek Bridge was completed on August 31 just in time for the Los Viajeros Riding Club to enjoy during their Labor Day overnight at Jack Brook Horse camp. The bridge is a work of art and the West Brook Trail is now open to equestrian and pedestrian traffic. The first to cross the bridge were Volunteer Horse Patrol members Teri Baron and Susan Osofsky (see photo below) with the LV members soon to follow. In all, over 500 hours of volunteer labor were involved moving the materials to the site, installing the beams, building the footing, and assembling the handrails. We can’t say thank you enough to Mike Bushue (who alone put in 311 hours!) and his volunteers for all their hard work in building the bridge. For more details please visit our website - link below.

Center Trail Bridge update
For those of you that don’t read the Almanac, there was a little setback on this project. After the Town Council approved the funding of the project in June, a Conditional Use Permit needed to be approved by the Planning Commission. On Sept 3rd it was presented and they voted 3 to 3. This means it will go back to the Town Council who will then decide whether or not to issue the CUP. This hearing will take place on October 8th. The dissenting planning commissioners concern was that the bridge over Bear Gulch Creek, only benefited horseback riders and not the community as a whole. Given the overwhelming support so far from the Town Council, we are optimistic that they will vote to issue the permit.
The other issue to date is the need for an environmental review by the California Fish and Wildlife Department. Part of this is the moratorium on construction around creeks from Oct 15 to June 15. The hope is that during this delay we can finish getting all the necessary permits, CUP, construction bids and materials bids for a target start date of June 16, 2020. |

Woodside Town Council Goes Trail Riding
On Sat Aug 24 the Woodside Town Council was invited to participate in a beautiful trail ride in Wunderlich Park. The ride was followed by a Town Council meeting, and a short presentation from fifteen different equestrian groups from the area. The Mounted Patrol Foundation then presented checks of $500 each to the qualifying equestrian organizations. Afterwards everyone was treated to a fabulous lunch provided by the Mounted Patrol under the portico of the historic Folger Stable. The event was organized to raise awareness of the equestrian experience and to educate the council on the various clubs, organizations, facilities and activities associated with horses in our community. The horses were provided by Chaparral Ranch located in Wunderlich Park and are also available to the public for trail rides. Riding from the town council were the Mayor, Vice Mayor, all but one of the council members, the Town Manager and the Town Secretary. A good time was had by all and everyone had a chance to meet and mingle and enjoy the beautiful stable and surrounding environs.
