Welcome to the Mounted Patrol Foundation quarterly newsletter
A TALE OF TWO BRIDGES
As you may recall from our last newsletter, we have been diligently working on the Towne Creek Bridge Project in Pescadaro Creek County Park. Since then, we have added an additional bridge project namely the Central Trail Bridge to finally repair that section of the trail that was washed out several years ago. Below are updates on these two exciting initiatives.
Towne Creek Bridge - The good news is we have raised all the money necessary to complete this project, purchased all the materials and have the contractors lined up to do the construction. Thanks to all of our generous donors! The bad news is the start date has been delayed due to several factors. On April 16th , our original start date, the creek was still too high to cross. Then a major sink hole was discovered in the access road making it impossible to get to the bridge to do the repairs. Then it rained again! The hope is we can begin construction the first week in June and be done by the end of July. Many thanks to Mike Bushue for all his hard work managing this project and to Walt Gloskowski for his engineering brilliance.
Center Trail Bridge – Several years ago we had a washout and slide on Bear Gulch Creek that closed the center trial about a quarter mile in from Fox Hollow. As one of the most important trails in Woodside, it is critical to get it reopened. The Woodside Trials Committee and the Town Engineer developed a plan to extend the trail and build a new bridge across the creek. Since this is a town project, we had to secure funding prior to getting approval from the town. The MP Foundation reached out to the equestrian community and secured pledges for $115,000 to insure the project could be done. The Woodside Town Council then approved moving forward with this project on May 28th. The hope is this project will be completed late this year or early next year. Our thanks for the generous commitments from WHOA, the Mounted Patrol Foundation, Woodside Community Foundation, CHAPS, Woodside Trail Club and several individual donors.
RODEO COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
Once again the MP Foundation, through the generous donations from the Bill Lane Western Hertiage Fund, the Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Parks and the Mounted Patrol Foundation, will be awarding a $2000 scholarship to a college bound participant in the Mounted Patrol’s 4th of July Rodeo. Nominations are now open, so if you know of a deserving participant, please send your nomination to treasurer@mountedpatrolfoundation.org.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to reach out to our equestrian friends and look forward to communicating with you regularly regarding our efforts and other areas of interest to our community. We also invite you to provide feedback on issues we are not aware of where the Foundation and our supporters may be of assistance.
Thanks so much for joining us and happy trails!
