Whenever National Heroes’ Day rolls around, there’s a tendency for people to focus so much on the already-departed heroes that the living ones go uncelebrated. Well, not this year and definitely not at Morbie: we’ve always believed that some of the greatest heroes in the world are still living, and many of them are all the greater for how little acknowledgement they often receive. It surely speaks well of a person who does something noble if he continues to do it even if he’s rarely called heroic for it… and if the only persons who know of his nobility are the ones in his immediate family.
This month, we’re inviting everyone to remember these many unsung and modest heroes: the father who leaves his homeland just so he can get better wages to support the family from an ocean away; or the mother who lives in a different country from her own children just so she can make the money to send them to the schools they deserve. There are many such heroes belonging to our nation, and they all deserve a little gratitude every now and then.
