Answers To a Few of Your Questions

What is Summer Get Away?

Special Touch Ministry Summer Get Away is an overnight, residential, camp-style retreat, five days and four nights, for people with intellectual or physical disabilities to have fun and find fellowship with others in a Christian atmosphere.

Each location is staffed with Medical professionals and volunteer staff. Each location offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. While the facilities at each Get Away vary, special care has been given to select activities that will best fit the unique needs of our guests. Some examples include: swimming, fishing, crafts, boat rides, sports, games, hayrides, bonfires, petting zoos, and more!

Who is eligible to attend Summer Get Away?

Summer Get Away welcomes individuals of all abilities, including those with physical or intellectual disabilities. Families are encouraged to join the fun!

Participants need to be able to make choices, express their own needs, follow directions with supervision and guidance, be aware, and have a desire to participate in all the daily activities of the camp. Participants will require a physician's release prior to participation.

Will participants (guests) be assigned a caregiver?

Guests ages 10 through adult that are mostly independent and able to handle their own personal care will be provided a vetted, volunteer, supervisory staff to offer guidance throughout the week.

Guests needing help with personal care such as showering, dressing, or eating or those under 10 years old will need to provide their own caregiver (can be a parent/guardian). Separate registration for this Personal Care Staff person is required.

There is a new immunization section on the guest application, do I need to enter all the immunization details? Can’t the medical professional just send this info?

We understand completing new forms can be a hassle. This year, we're required to collect immunization information directly from participants or their guardians. For each vaccine listed on the application, you can either fill in the details (dates, vaccine names) or simply check the "not received" box if a particular vaccine hasn't been administered (or you are uncertain).

While we can't accept this information directly from healthcare providers (instead of being entered online), we've added comprehensive explanations and answers to frequently asked questions about this and other application sections on our FAQ page

How do I get answer to other questions?
