You're not alone, many of us have these thoughts! I get it. I understand the hesitation from past hurts. But let me tell all the special needs parents… YOUR CHILD IS NOT A BURDEN! They are a blessing and a gift from God.
I've spoken to parents about the Summer Get Away, events and church services saying, "Please don’t hold back because you think he/she is too much!" Does that mean there will be no struggles? No. Does that mean the church will always do and say everything right? No.
Does it mean that you and your child should be welcomed into the life of the church to be included and loved in a way that works for all of you? ABSOLUTELY! The church is full of imperfect people who need you and your child in their life as much as you need them!
Don’t hold back. If there’s an open door, walk through it! As a parent, I’ve walked through those doors. We’ve had a few bumps along the way, but that does not outweigh the blessing that is our church family, that loves my child for all that he is.
