Starting a disability ministry in your church begins with the foundation...
Does your church have a volunteer or staff personnel that oversees disability ministry? Within the church, do you currently minister to people with disabilities? Do you offer a Sunday school class, weekly or monthly events, or outreaches for those impacted by disability? Are people with disabilities included in your church?
If your answer is no. That’s where you begin. Assigning someone who will champion the disability ministry within the church is critical to the success of disability ministry. If there is no leader, the ministry will not develop, grow or accommodate. This leader could be a staff pastor, a staff member, or a specific volunteer member from your congregation. The main requirement = a heart for people with disabilities and their families.
