Subject: Most church leaders would agree...

Most church leaders would agree that they want their congregation to mirror the demographics of their community. If 20% of your community is impacted by disability, is that reflected in your church? If not, what needs to change to make it so?

A few simple things you can do:

  • Pray specifically for individuals and families impacted by disability in your church and community.

  • Welcome people with disabilities into your church body. Start a special needs ministry, support group, respite or outreach program for those impacted by disability.

  • Look for the potential. God made every BODY, in his image, with a plan and a purpose for them. Serving people with disabilities is a balance of understanding and validating the struggle and seeing the potential, God's greater plan and purpose, though it.

And remember, disability impacts the entire family. A large percentage of family members of the one with a disability, do not attend church either.
