Unlocking Potential: Embracing Inclusion in the Local Church

Every October the Office of Disability Employment Policy, United States Department of Labor, (ODEP), recognizes National Employment Awareness Month. This event is designed to honor the many contributions people with disabilities make to America’s workplaces and economy and to showcase inclusivity in the Workplace.

Just as ODEP is promoting the advancement of access in the workplace, Special Touch Ministry, STM, is promoting the advancement of access, embracing inclusion, and unlocking potential in the local church.

By welcoming people with disabilities in our local churches, we gain access to a pool of unique talents, perspectives and skills. The bible encourages this in Romans 12: 4-6, "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us."

People with disabilities can contribute valuable insights, creativity, and dedication to programs and ministry within the local church. Statistics show at least 85% of people with disabilities do not attend church.  Think about this. There are parts of the body of Christ that are missing! How many spiritual gifts are our churches missing out on, from these 85% of unreached, unserved, people in our community?

What people with disabilities need to be included in our churches, many times, is the same as what anyone else needs... to feel welcomed as a contributing part of the body of Christ. Join us in embracing inclusion in our Church and Making the Cross Accessible.
