Subject: Inspiring Youth Leaders: Summer Mission Trip

Did you know Special Touch Ministry offers a program for youth?

The Summer Get Away CIT (Caregiver-In-Training) Mission Trip empowers young people (ages 14-17) to serve individuals with disabilities. Many CIT's continue with us as volunteer staff, some even find their calling in only five days, making a career in serving people with disabilities!

Here are a few of the countless inspiring stories:

Jonathan was introduced to Special Touch Ministry at the age of 14. He was a new Christian and learned about the Summer Get Away CIT program through a speaker at his youth group.

Initially, he viewed a week at camp as a nice break from home, coming from a tough background and still feeling rough around the edges. Little did he know how profoundly God would transform his life during that week.

Special Touch Ministry soon became Jonathan's extended family, with him prioritizing attendance at the STM Summer Get Away annually. He progressed from being a caregiver to part of the support team and even volunteered at other STM events.

While he didn't aim for a specific role within STM, Jonathan's commitment was to connect each guest with the authentic love of the Savior in any way possible. His goal was to make the God of centuries past tangible in their present lives, demonstrating the caring nature of a loving God and fostering a personal bond with each individual.

More than 20 years later, Jonathan, now a Missions Associate with the Assemblies of God, remains dedicated to serving with STM. He encourages others to be a part of this life-changing experience.

"As a young girl, my family and I used to attend STM camps every summer," Jenel reminisced. "I recall the impatience I felt not being able to be a CIT until I turned 14. I eagerly awaited that milestone, and when it arrived, my affection for these 'Special People' soared.

During a tubing activity, I injured my leg. Upon returning to the cabin, a girl suggested we pray for my leg. To my surprise, Mary, known to be non-verbal according to her guardian, spoke for the first time all week - directly to God on my behalf!

It was a touching moment. Witnessing Mary vocalize was astounding! Although I can't recall her words, I vividly remember feeling God's comforting presence in the room. After the prayer, my leg felt completely healed! Through Mary, God had delivered a prayer of faith and restoration."

Becca began coming in 2005. She felt this would be a great place for her first mission trip, since her brother and sister were attending. "Monday was overwhelming. What little sign language I knew went right out the window!"

Becca continues to attend each year she is available, serving in volunteer and supporting staff roles. "The best thing about coming back is how much the guests remember you," she says. "Even though it's work, it's more fun and you get so many spiritual and emotional blessings from it."
