Subject: Goals for the Future of Disability Ministry

While the methods may change, our "message" remains the same.

Each year, Special Touch Ministry evaluates and measures ministry programs and services. In striving to be a ministry of excellence, it’s important to regularly measure what matters and adapt... continuing to meet the spiritual, emotional, and social needs of the individuals and families we serve.

To measure what matters, and adjust accordingly, we need to acknowledge that Special Touch Ministry is the means to an end not the end itself. It is just a vehicle to bring a message of hope to the lives of individuals and families impacted by disability.

While the methods may change, our “message” remains the same.

As the ministry adapts for short-term growth, we also reflect on the long-term future of disability ministry. To this end, one of the largest goals for the Special Touch leadership in 2022, is to redevelop, restructure, and upgrade the Special Touch Disability-Friendly Church Certification program (DFC).

Statistic have shown about 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability. Since Special Touch rolled out the DFC Program, eight years ago, an increasing number of churches have asked themselves the question “If this is the case, where are the people with disabilities in our church?”

The Great Commission calls the church to go out and make disciples, carrying out the task of baptizing and teaching all that Christ has commanded. Someone once said, “God has ordained the church, a fellowship of the flawed, to carry out his purpose and will in the world.” In order to do this, we want to assist the church in Making the Cross Accessible.
