Subject: Faith, Family, and Dads who Make a Difference

Father's Day

Today's fathers are a diverse and devoted group, breaking stereotypes by actively participating in their children's lives and creating nurturing environments. Each Father’s Day we dedicate time to appreciate the many men who have chosen to honor God with their commitment to their family.

There is no higher calling than being a dad. Dad's teach their children best... everything that God is, or everything that God isn't!

"Which of you fathers if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?" Luke 11:11-12 NIV

Good fathers give their children good gifts! Unconditional love, honor, compassion, humility, transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, generosity, righteousness, and godliness! For dads of children with special needs, being fully engaged in parenting a child with a disability, an even greater level of commitment is necessary. While the challenges may be unique, the rewards are abundant.

Here, a few men share their insights on what it means to father a child with a disability:

  • Having a special needs child (or children) causes you to take a step back and look at what things are most important in life. Faith in God and the support of family and friends. ~Jeff

  • Our son has taught me unconditional love; he freely gives hugs and smiles and offers multiple "hi yah’s" to whoever enters his world. I learn, by his example, gentleness and patience... qualities we all need, but come naturally from him. He also inspires me in worship because he has a freedom that doesn't exist for most of us. ~ M. W.

  • During the Spring of 1981 I was having problems dealing with the why I had a child with disabilities. Everyone else had children that were perfect, why do we have a child who we love that is not? Then I hear the words from the Lord, deep from the spirit within me say, "Who told you she's not perfect?" As a dad, those words changed my life. ~Joe

This Father's Day we are thankful for all our dad's and pray that God will continue to bless them and guard their hearts, especially those with disabled children. Your prayers and financial support of this ministry can encourage them, even in the uncertainty of their family struggle, that God has given them everything they need to enjoy and nurture His gift to them!
