Subject: A few simple ways you can serve those impacted by disability in your church

When church members become homebound...

Individuals in nursing homes, group homes, or hospitals, and families who are not able to attend church services regularly, as a result of a disability, can easily become forgotten members of the church. The winter season also sees an increase in the number of adults staying home due to mobility concerns.

While many churches now offer online streaming of services, this cannot replace a personal connection.

A few simple ways you can serve those impacted by disability in your church:

  • Send cards and encouragement by mail.

  • If you haven't seen them at church in a few weeks, call, text, or message them to see how they're doing.

  • If they sound overwhelmed, offer ways to help if needed: clean the house, run errands, or do yard maintenance.

  • Pray for them and offer to pray with them.

  • Organize hospital, nursing home, or home visits and brighten a person’s day!

  • Create a basket of cheer (fruit or small, individually-wrapped gifts).
