WORKIN' ON THE CHAIN GANG

More accurately, the convict work gang detail.  But, in some cases prisoners were chained together.  Scenes like the one above were common in the South and continued into modern times.  "Prison Work Gang"; Ensley, Alabama c.1934 could be confused with a scene from a movie except for the fact that this was reality for many convicts.
"Workin' on the Chain Gang"; Florida (June 15, 1936).  Photo by H. L. Donald Jr. These convicts take a break from their work. We have a number of hard to get "chain gang" photos in our collection.  Archival, museum quality prints using Giclée technology are also available.  Contact us for details.
