VIETNAM WAR: OPERATION ATLAS WEDGE

Combat photographer Joel Shanus contributed a collection of Vietnam War photos to DPI that he took while stationed in South Vietnam. The above photo we call "Kill For Peace". Taken in Dau Tieng District, Binh Doung Province, on March 17, 1969. From March 17-24, 1969 the 1st Infantry Division, 11th Armored Cavalry, 1/4 Cavalry conducted Operation Atlas Wedge in the Michelin Rubber Plantation. In this scene 1st Infantry Division soldiers open fire on NVA  troops caught on the plantation. Shown below is a photo that we call "Cover" taken on the same day.
