Color or black and white? It depends. Choose the medium that best expresses what you are trying to say. Above is "Hayfield"; Canada c.1916. As color film was not in widespread use at the time any attempt at colorization would seem contrived. Below is "Man in a Cornfield", U.S. c. 1915. Two rural scenes taken during the same period. I would argue that the absence of color allows the viewer to better concentrate on the elements in the composition while color would generate a feeling of "being there". Perception is everything as there is no correct answer as to which medium to choose. Dramatic scenes tend to play well in black & white. See more images in our People collection.
