THE GAS LINES

I remember them well, do you? In the beginning drivers waited in line for hours just to get $2.00 worth of gasoline. Engines had to be shut off to avoid wasting gas. Then it was on to wait at another station for a few dollars more. Basically, an all day experience. Then they went to odd and even days based on the last number of your license plate. In a few months the price hit 60 cents/gal. and magically the lines disappeared. This was a scene in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania in March 1974 just west of Philadelphia.
