THE BEACH

A good time is the order of the day for these folks "Fun at the Beach", c. 1914.  A generation earlier men would have come to the beach wearing a suit and hat, and the women in long dresses and a hat.  That was at the end of the Victorian Era, so while these bathing suits may seem odd to us today these folks felt quite liberated in their time.
A young woman on the sand at the famous "Brighton Beach" Baths; Brooklyn, N. Y. (July 1914). She seems to represent a more conservative position for the times.  Please see our People collection for more images.
