Above is the trackage map for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad as it rolled through the South in the early part of the 20th century. This map is available on Wikipedia. Below is a photo, "L & N Railroad" (1907) as it winds its way south from Elora, Tennessee through Alabama. The typical camera in use at that time would have been a Kodak "Brownie".
