In the beginning times were tough in post war America as a severe housing shortage forced folks into living in quonset huts and in the photo above Army surplus tents: "Post War Housing Shortage"; California c.1946. As time passed things began to look brighter as shown in the photo below which we call "Paradise"; Madisonville, Kentucky (July 1952). From the song "Paradise" by John Prine - "And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg county, Down by the Green River where Paradise lay, Well I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking, Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away."
