PHOTOGRAPHS THAT LOOK LIKE PAINTINGS

In our quest to bring the best in documentary photography to our viewers we sometimes come across photographs that are so perfect in every way that they resemble paintings. The above example is an iconic image that we find to fit the criteria for a painting rather than as a photograph. "The Old Fisherman"; Jacksonville, Florida (February 15, 1892). A classic 19th century image. Note the bamboo fishing pole and the Spanish moss.
The lazy, hazy days of summer. A mother and her son dip their feet in a lake. The ripples in the lake provide a tactile sense to the image. We would argue that this composition resembles a painting more than a photograph as important elements creating interest are in perfect harmony. "The Lake"; United States (June 30, 1952). See our People collection for more images.
