The title of the photo above, "Master of the House", U. S. c.1940 is taken from a song from "Les Misérables". We use it to illustrate that this house servant and the woman pictured below, "Lady of the House" are the true heroes of their living quarters. The house could not survive without their knowledge and skills albeit they exist in a condition of 20th century servitude. They are the true masters of this house.
