MADE IN AMERICA

Required reading for this topic is The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (1904) by Max Weber.  The value of an honest day's wages for an honest day's work and a "can do" attitude is reflected in what we call American Exceptionalism. This photo, "Made In America", was taken in a Rhode Island furniture factory (c.1891).
"The Workshop" was taken in 1914 as shop workers are on a rest break.  Similar scenes were replicated for decades in all parts of America as workers tended to self-segregate themselves based on job title.
