It doesn't seem to matter too much where or when, but children will invent games that stimulate their intellect if left to themselves with whatever is available. The scene above we have entitled "Long Distance Call"; California c.1918 shows a young boy and girl playing telephone and placing a call to each other with a candlestick telephone. Below is "The Great Tricycle Rally" taken on the sidewalk in Brooklyn, New York (1937). No finish line for this rally. It ends at dinnertime.
