HOMAGE TO JOHN VACHON

DPI salutes John Vachon, one of the great Farm Security Administration (FSA) photographers during the 1930s. In my opinion, Vachon's photographs were on another level from his colleagues. Vachon was able to incorporate texture into his images such as the rain in the photo below, "Rain, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania " (1941). His photo of cars parked diagonally in Omaha, Nebraska (1938) has likewise motivated us to try and emulate his style. Easier said than done.
