Another look at the Great Depression. Above is a photo that we call "Junkyard". A young boy plays in a trash filled area in Palm Springs, California (December 20, 1938). Not the normal scene one might expect in such an affluent locale. Below is a photo that we call "T-I-M-B-E-R!"; U.S. c.1934 as a man cuts down a dead tree for firewood. As the Depression deepened more than just dead trees were cut down as all things made of wood became fair game in order to keep warm. See more images from our 1930s collection.
