These images are from our Places collection. "Hell's Kitchen" was taken in Manhattan (1915) and is representative of living conditions in that neighborhood during that period. Some images influence not only an intellectual response from the viewer but also a visceral response. Combining the two in one image is a difficult task, but we believe that "Hell's Kitchen" meets that test. |
