DUST BOWL: THE MIGRANTS

It may be difficult to imagine how the Dust Bowl was a major factor in American life in the 1930s, and how the people who were most affected had to uproot themselves and move to other parts of the country. Above, "Dust Bowl: MIgrants"; Austin, Texas c.1933, this family is all packed up and ready to move out. Below, "Dust Bowl: California Migrants"; Freemont, California c.1937, this family has an outdoor meal after making the trip to one of the most favored locations for these migrants. See more images from our 1930s collection.
