| | DO YOU REMEMBER - 1935?
Most of us alive today do not actually remember 1935. The photo above, "And The Crowd Goes Wild" c.1935 shows a collection of what appears to be migrant farm workers trucked in to an event of some kind. Taken in the western U. S., this is one of those images where the viewer has to fill in the blanks as to the purpose of this gathering. DPI's assessment may not be correct. We encourage viewers to submit possible scenarios, and we will announce the results in two weeks. Below is "The Nanny"; Texas c.1935. Not an unusual photo as the Great Depression only worsened the employment situation for African-Americans who had been facing discrimination for decades following the end of the Civil War. Work as "domestics" was common. An extension of slavery by other means and names. What is unusual about this photo is the appearance of a second "domestic" standing in the doorway.
