| | DIFFERENT WORLDS
What are the environmental factors in the life of a child that have an effect on the man or woman in adulthood? Two views on this question are presented here. Above is an image which we call "Paradise", c.1917. A bucolic, happy scene in which this youngster finds himself. Below is a photo which we call "The Hen House", c.1917. This young man emerges with a chicken in hand. He seems to have been born into a life where chores are expected of him. This is not to say that there is less of a benefit from having to work hard as a child as compared to a life of ease. Quite the contrary. But the environment in which a child grows to adulthood, we believe, has an impact on that person's worldview. See more photos in our People collection.
