DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS

We have here two, divergent views of life during the Great Depression. Above is "Halloween - 1936"; Gouverneur, New York (October 31, 1936). All seems quiet and relatively unaffected by events in the western U. S. That is until, upon close inspection, you notice what seems to be a pile of trash on the sidewalk is actually a homeless person under cardboard. Disaster is never too far away. Below is "The Fishing Party"; Rochester, Minnesota c.1937. Both images taken in relatively the same time frame. The fisherman are not there for the joy of fishing. They are trying to have a good catch for their evening's dinner. Fish as a complete dinner or as a supplement was vital to many folks in these hard times. Licensing is based on usage.
