COUNTRY FOLKS vs. CITY FOLKS

Sectionalism. The term is used to describe the unique lifestyle of people living in a distinct geographic area as compared to people living in other areas. For example, life in the western United States is far different from the conditions in eastern sections. There is also a clear distinction between country folks and city folks. "Cajun Reunion" was taken in Louisiana c.1950. This extended family takes pleasure in the company of each other.

Life in the big city is in contrast with country living. A large city offers a different variety of stimuli for its residents by its very nature. The exposure to a variety of cultures and languages is characteristic of large metropolitan areas. "A Walk in Central Park"; Manhattan, New York City (April 5, 1947) caught this family following their viewing of a Broadway show.  See more images in our People collection.
