Our interpretation of these photos is purely subjective. But as a retired teacher I have to go with my gut with respect to these images. Above is entitled "Teacher"; U. S. c.1916. Not only the dress but the demeanor matches what would be expected of a teacher around the turn of the century. Total dedication to the students to the exclusion of anything outside the classroom. Below is a photo that we call "Schoolmarm"; Big Rapids, Michigan c.1927. More than just a teacher. A lifetime of dedication and service. A one room schoolhouse seen in the background.
