| | AROUND THE WORLD IN THE 1930s
Let us not forget the events of the 1930s beyond the borders of the United States. The period was dominated by the news of fascism and totalitarianism coming out of Germany, Italy and Japan. But life went on unchanged for the most part elsewhere. In "Poverty in Haiti" (1932) above the struggle for survival continued as the norm. Below, in "Sacred Cow in Calcutta"; India (1936) western tourists enjoyed the good life in India under British control while the local population lived under second class citizenship with restrictions. We have several "sacred cow' images in our Dispatch on Assignment collection.
