1940 - DO YOU REMEMBER?

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".  I guess it all depends on your perspective.  Two scenes are shown here from the tail end of the Great Depression. Above is "Jorgenson's Jewelry Store" in Chicago, Illinois (July 1940). Nice Bulova and Gruen watches for sale if you have the money. You could then take in a movie too.  Now showing "Black Diamond" starring Andy Devine (see reflection in the window).  Life is good.  No so for the farmer below who after years of struggling through the Great Depression can no longer sustain his farm. "Farm Foreclosure Auction" (1940) was an all too familiar scene in the Farm Belt.
