School is ending, but keep your brain sharp with these ELL and Co-Teaching workshops in June!
|
| Martina Wagner is presenting three June workshops at Metro
ECSU. You can always expect a great workshop with Martina! She is an engaging,
energetic expert in English Language Learning and Co-Teaching.
Comment from a past Sheltered Instruction workshop participant: With
this training, I didn’t have to change how I taught. I just had to rethink it
for the ELL and Academic Language Learners in my class!
And from a past Co-Teaching
workshop participant: This session is spot on...We didn’t realize there are so
many ways to develop a strong co-teaching classroom and partnership, and to identify
ways to reach each learner in our co-taught class. |

|
| The Metropolitan Principals' Academy (MPA) is excited to bring Dr. Mike
Schmoker to town on July 27, 2017 at the Shoreview Community Center. Mike, a highly regarded speaker, has background as both an
administrator and a teacher. He has

Focus, and Focus: Elevating the
Essential to Radically Improve Student Learning) and articles for a variety
of publications. Teamwork time is integrated with this
workshop, so bring a team!
Learn from Mike and create a plan before you leave.
In this workshop, leaders
will learn precisely where schools should focus their precious time and
resources to ensure that all students are prepared for the demands of college,
careers, and citizenship. They will
learn about and how to implement the three most essential elements of good
schooling: coherent curriculum, authentic
literacy, and soundly-structured lessons
This July 27 workshop is the first of four
workshops in the MPA Leadership In-Service series for 2017-2018. Members attend
for free, so be sure to join or renew your MPA membership before then!

| | Online Strategies for Literacy Continue for DHH
Teachers in Fall 2017 Sessions for The Visual Imagery Strategywill begin on October 10, 2017.This reading
comprehension strategy is used by students (at grades 3 and above reading
levels) to create “mental movies” of reading passages. Students learn
techniques that help them visualize the scenery, characters, and action related
to a passage read. They actually learn to describe what they see as they
read.
This strategy
enhances reading comprehension by improving recall of facts and sequences. The
Visual Imagery Strategy also requires students to tie reading passages to prior
knowledge. It is offered at no charge to Minnesota public school educators of
DHH students. This initiative is made
possible in part with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using
Federal funding CFDA 84.027A, Special Education - Grants to States. This
workshop does not necessarily represent the policy of the federal Department of
Education or the state Department of Education; endorsement by the federal or
state government should not be assumed.
