As men of God we have to get this right.
If you say you are going to do something...do it.
If you can't do it...don't say you will do it.
Seems simple but I have fallen into the trap of empty promises many times in my life. I have frivolously given my word in situations where I should have stayed quiet or just said 'no'.
Times where I have a heart to help result in my overextending myself. Although my heart is in the right place, the intent gets lost in translation when I cannot live up to what I said I would do.
Has that ever happened to you?
For this reason we really must be more honest with ourselves. Be willing to say 'yes' or 'no' and commit to our decision.
A real man should not have to "swear to God" or "put it on their [insert deceased family member's name]'s grave" to convince someone that their word is trustworthy.
A real man will say it then do it. End of story.
Guzik states...
"Having to swear or make oaths portrays the weakness of your word. It demonstrates that there is not enough weight in your own character to confirm your words."
The weight of your word is far too valuable to be given without a real commitment.
Today, make a decision to treat your word with the honor it deserves.
Let's pray...
"Father remove empty promises from the presence of my lips. Help me to turn down what I cannot do, and commit fully to the things I can. The ability to do what I say is a Christ-like characteristic you have called me to uphold to the highest standard. Today I accept that call. In Jesus name I pray, Amen"
